I lay on wet pebbles, my skin covered in scales
Just leave me here for a moment,
don’t even lean in
I’ve waited for so long to get where I’m now
Naked and hurt on the outside.
Breathing the burning sensation of salt in my eyes.
I saw the black clouds gather towards my aimed way,
I followed without hesitation,
I dove into a fog of red leaves and rain
Muddy drops covered my body and hair
I could have waited it out,
But time was too precious to waste.
I’ve got scars from branches and words
I’ve got wounds from things I have learned
I ran towards the lightning, the thunder, the force
Spare me, I whispered.
But then I shouted:
I’m coming for more!
Heat and sweat and hurt and lust
Tried to cry it out,
sweat it out
and walk as far
As I get to know myself in a different light
So that I can really know myself at last
And when I was drowning from breathing just air
I cried and I cried ‘till my eyes and my soul became swollen and red
I kept hearing a voice: Keep your head above water!
So I tried and I tried
But then I gazed into that water
And I dived into the deep blue and the grey
The storm was above me, in the waves there was change.
As I learned how to swim against shipwrecks, currents, and ebbs
I got my armour of gills, scales, and my tail.
It’s my prize to be able to lie on the pebbles
Feel my body turn from survivor to saviour
Get to know all my strengths, admire what I did,
For I transformed fire and stone into liquid.
