Blumengärten Hirschstetten

The new season for the Hirschstetten botanical gardens just began so what better time to talk to you about them! This is one of the true "hidden treasures" of Vienna, although it is very well known by locals and apparently - wedding organisers, as well. 60,000 m² of differently themed gardens, children playgrounds, picnic and relaxation areas, a maze, wedding area, wooden swings, a palm house, a little farm, an aviary and a mini zoo... It is an adventure on its own, with free entrance, seasonal holiday markets and probably so much more that I cannot think of at this moment.

I still remember how amazed I was with everything that I saw the first time I went there some three years ago. The little leaflet that I had with me did not prepare me for the experience! Neither will this post prepare you.

Little cartoonish animals were running between my legs, hiding in holes in the ground; sheep were barely looking at me, but I made sure I was looking at everything. I travelled the world, stepping inside themed gardens that maintain specific botanical exhibitions. In some corners people were working, getting the beds ready for new plants, in other corners turtles were sunbathing on half-sunken trunks in the pond.

A designated area under the cherry trees awaits people who want to have a rest and snack on something, but what I particularly enjoy are the wooden benches that are swings, as well as the children's playground that was tested and approved by my daughter. The maze is fun, the flowers are mesmerising, the experience - peaceful and refreshing. Every time.
