Vienna Clock Museum

What an absolutely unexpected treat that museum is! You don't need to be a watch collector or a clock enthusiast to appreciate the rich and fascinating exhibition: from big and quite old clocks to fruit-shaped little jewels – there is a whole world of craftsmanship to impress the visitor!

The Vienna Clock Museum is conveniently situated in the centre of the city, on a small, quiet corner at Schulhof 2. It is not a large museum, but it takes time to go through all the beautiful designs and fascinating mechanisms of clocks of every shape and size. Apart from reading about them, you can also scan QR codes that play videos on your mobile device, showing exactly how the clocks function and what they sound like (for those that play melodies).

Another very clever initiative of the Clock Museum is the escape room they have created, using items from the museum’s own collection. I'm not the biggest fan of escape rooms in general, but this one seems quite nice and fun - a lovely way to spend an hour or two exploring the museum with friends in an unconventional way.

But even if you just go about it in the old-fashioned way, there is so much to impress you: such as the Franz Zajiček astronomical clock that welcomes you with its contrasting beauty in blue and golden details, the German canopy clock from the 17th century, or the precious watch collection of Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach.
